Going Rate for an English Tutor

Going rate for a native-speaking English tutor in Seoul's high-rent districts, according to a mom who just found one, a Dartmouth graduate no less...

50,000 KRW ($45)per hour for one student

60,000 KRW ($54) for blonde female "premium"

500,000 KRW ($446) The cost for the referral agency who found the English tutor

You can specify nationality, gender, hair color, prestige of degree, as well as how much you are willing to pay, in your request.

  1. Hi Michael,
From what I've heard, if you're a gyopo or overseas-educated Korean national, you can charge a premium to teach English.
This is especially true for tutors who are either students or recent graduates of Ivy League schools. One friend told me it's almost like your high school matters more -- so a grad from Choate or Exeter (or TJ, to get DC metro-local) can charge at least 100,000 won per hour for English instruction.
    Interesting, huh?

  2. Exactly what is the agency doing to deserve 500,000 won? It must all those late night session with Johnny Walker that have to get paid for...?
